High or Low season

In Thailand there is really only 2 seasons. Winter and Summer. Winter is not what many North Americans are used to as this does not suggest cold in the slightest. It is always warm to hot in all of Thailand and there are very few days where you might actually experience cold. October is the start of the “high season” where the temps are a bit cooler than the summer and average around 34C during the day and a low of around 27C at night. You can add about 5-10 degrees in the summer. The huge difference between the two seasons is the rain. It can really really rain in parts of Thailand. Not only does it come down in large amounts at one time, it seemed to me that the rain actually fell harder and faster and kind of hurt. That was not all the time, but the crazy storms they get there can really pound down. From July to October, it is not uncommon for it to rain daily for many days at a time. Interestingly however, these rainfalls are not constant. Often you can see them in spurts of an hour or two here and there.

Tourism is majorly affected by this. November to April, the southern tourist cities are filled with people globally, but come June, that changes drastically. So if you are not in for the areas packed with tourists, you might want to head in the summer, but be prepared for it to rain.
